Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  How do I know which wires to connect where?

Answer:

A wiring diagram is provided inside each Motorscope Protection Unit's Manual (on page 2).  If you don't have a copy of this manual, please download your specific unit's manual   [ here ]  .

Q:  The LED Modes Sticker on my unit is faded out, how do I now know what the LED indications mean?

Answer:

You may either download the LED Modes Sticker or the Instruction Manual of your specific unit from   [ here ]  .  The LED indications are explained on both of these documents.

Q:  What is first time calibration?

Answer:

First time calibration is our simple sequence to be followed the first time you power-up your new Motorscope Protection Unit.  This sequence is the same for all the Motorscope Protection Units.  Detailed instructions on the procedure could be downloaded from  [ here ]  .

The first time calibration sequence is also included in each Motorscope Protection Unit's Manual (on page 2).  If you don't have a copy of this manual, please download your specific unit's manual  [ here ]  .

Q:  How do I know which wire is which (Common / Start / Run) on a single phase motor?

Answer:

A wire definition for each of the Run, Start and Common wires are given in the section named "Run, Start and Common wire definitions" on page 2 of each single phase protection unit's manual.  If you don't have a copy of this manual, please download your specific unit's manual  [ here ]  .

Q:  Can I set the voltage window wider?

Answer:

No.  The voltage window is by default already very wide.  On three phase units from a reference of 400V, we allow changes of 10% up and 15% down.  This gives a window from 340V to 440V.  Adjusting this window larger than these specifications, may damage the motor beyond repair.

Q:  Why does the unit not allow me to start the motor in less than 2min apart?

Answer:

Motor manufacturers only allows for a certain amount of starts per hour for every size motor.  To take the maximum amount of starts per hour for a wide range of motors into account, we chose a default minimum run time between starts of 2min x CT ratio (see table below for values).  This feature may be disabled, but doing so will forfeit any warranty claims on the motor as the motor was used outside of the safe operating limits.

C.T. Ratio Table

Motor Current: 1 to 14 Amp 10 to 28 Amp 20 to 56 Amp 40 to 112 Amp
C.T. Ratio: 1 2 4 8

Q:  Is it possible to view the trip data on my Optimizer?

Answer:

No.  The Optimizer is only used as a storage medium to store the trip data (collectively referred to as a download) from up to 16 Motorscope protection units.  These downloads (collectively referred to as a log file) may be transferred to a PC via our Downloader and Downloader Program.  Once the log file is stored on the PC, it may be retrieved at any time to view various graphs of the trip data of each download in a log file.
